During the holiday season, we reflect on the passing year and
make plans for a happy and prosperous new year...”New Beginnings.”
NoHo Gallery LA celebrates the holiday season by exhibiting the work
of artists who have decided to dedicate their lives full time to their art...
to create a New Beginning. Featured fine metal artist Jason Mernick’s
full-time dedication to his art and his unique pieces.

• S.S. CATALINA

Twenty-Six Miles Across the Sea
Santa Catalina is the place for me...
I went to Catalina Island 26 miles from San Pedro,Ca.
with Mom and Dad and my younger brother's Cub
Scout group. This was about 1960.
We went on the steam ship S.S. Catalina
enjoyed the bus tour and the glass bottom boat. We
came back at night which reminded me of the early
1900's trips of relatives from Europe. This ship was
built in 1924 built by Catalina magnate Wrigley the
chewing gum family, and was part of WWII where
it traveled the California coast transporting over
800,000 troops. Unfortunately the ship has wound
up in Baja California awaiting rescue

WWII Troop Carrier

The ship as most of us remember it,
docked at Avalon Harbor on
Catalina Island, Ca.

Where it stands in Ensenada Baja California.

• Another 76 BALL in TORRANCE

I found another rare 76 Ball
at a station in Torrance, Ca.
see video here
then scroll
down to see a now former one.

• "LOS CAPOS" an EAST L.A. VISIT

Went to this great annual 'Cranksgiving'
L.A. Bike messenger party where I also
provided video projection of various
previous bike races. It was outside by
the 101 Fwy and 4th Street at the East
L.A. border. Great music, dancing and
bike party games. I just got these pics
of the back of a bus stored at the site for Los Capos,
album shown here, and an old deisel engine
with the 101 passing behind.

• "TACO TRUCK JAIL" SUN VALLEY

Between ST & NoHo is Sun Valley where on the
San Fernando 'interior road' I found this resting
place for Lunch Trucks some of us call TACO TRUCKS.

• RED CAR NoHo 1950's

The Pacific Electric Red Car service to the
San Fernando Valley. This Car 5170 is
traveling over the Tujunga Wash which
is now the 170 FWY @ Chandler in NoHo.

• NOHO RAILROAD STATION.
Cars 5120 and 1299
hang out at NoHo
Red Car Station
and railyard.

• SUNLAND DRIVE-IN gone long ago

The Edwards Sunland Drive-In
Sunland Tujunga California. At
the site of what most of us know
as the K Mart property was this
Drive-In movie theater that had
a fireplace in the snack bar.
More recently the last movie our Governator Arnold
did T-3 the set-up area for movie production
was here.

This is the now disputed land
that many ST residents
say NO TO HOME DEPOT
.

• LOS ANGELES CHRISTMAS TIME

Pics from last year's holiday
presentation from the City of
Los Angeles. It's been so wonderful
to drive home quietly through
Griffith Park in the area between
the merry-go-round and the zoo.
The holiday music and the different colored
light installations with familiar Southland views.

DRIVE THRU continues, and now there are
BIKE NITES for all of you in Los Feliz & Atwater
who can bike-in, and hikers can come from
either end. ENJOY last year's pics...
VIDEO - BELOW SLIDESHOW

"My" 76 BALL gone!
HISTORICAL 76 BALL
NEAR LAKE BALBOA
Maria & Mike from FRANKLIN AVE say they were
"First with news of ... the disappearance of the 76 balls"
AND THEY ARE CORRECT!
This 76 now old school BALL is gone and now HISTORY
as 'the company' has it their way. Located on Victory
east of Balboa has now followed others with the new
corporate image. 76 gone in '06.

• My NoHo Home 1948 - 2006

This is my home
I grew up in from
1948 in NoHo and
for a period recently
until August 2006.

• HODY'S RESTAURANT NoHo

Oxnard & Lankershim in North Hollywood
during the late 50's. A major L.A. restaurant
chain called Hody's. There was one at Hollywood
& Vine, and two at La Brea & Rodeo. They had a
clown mask menu for kids. There was a coffee
shop and dining room including a bakery.
There was a major fire and it was never rebuilt.
By the way Rodeo is pronounced like the horse way,
only does it change to the posh way in 90210 down
the way a bit. PHOTO by Richard Sapiro.

• L.A. CITY HALL to VERDUGO HIGHLIGHTS

Gave Co-Worker Steve a ride up by City Hall got this pic
with cell cam, alighted up to Sunland Tujunga and as I
watched Ugly Betty I could hear the football game up
at Verdugo High
, it is pretty quiet up here. Then I
drove up to take these pic/vids of the field as the
game ended and even more excitement as a Fire Truck
passes by. From DownTown to OurTown,
so much excitement.

Sunland Tujunga & North Hollywood
are the City of Los Angeles,
California in the U.S.A.

We also live in the County of Los Angeles
this is the evil maybe x-logo that has that
G-d reference, and other stuff of the devils.
The County has used for it decades, WHO KNEW?

We can always make fun of ourselves
as with the fake-logo for Kalifoana.
With this neighborhood blog about
these cities with unique
historys and lifestyles,
we will shed some humor
and truths concerning our
Los Angeles
