ST EARLY SOCAL
HEALTH RETREAT

Years ago living up here, the first thing I noticed
was the CLEAN AIR up in SUNLAND TUJUNGA.
If you drive towards La Crescenta on the 210 you
could see a WALL OF SMOG starting just a you leave ST.

I remember my daughter Jessica's Grandmother, Zella
Memory Tutshulte, saying she was sent up into the ST area
as a young girl to recover from TB ( probably the 1920\30's ).

TODAY the ST area is bound in quasi-medical establishments,
from convalescent to half-way homes. In 2000 I was a
US CENSUS TAKER, and as you do this you are working in your
neighborhoods. I went to one fancy house on a hill to see the
front room with not much in it and fax machines at the kitchen
counter. A nice young person in white came out to answer the
census questions at that address. He was the caretaker for about
5 people who needed certain care. ST HEALTH RETREATS.

While I find Valley water bland, to say the least, ,
ST water comes mostly from mountain wells and has
always been good.

ST is up there about 1500 to way above
2000 above sea level, it gets very hot, and very cold,
even giving some snow here and then.

A POEM BY ABOUT ST FROM 1904

Mrs. Eliza A. Otis

- a writer for the LA Times in the 1880's

( written just before her passing in 1904 )

November in Sunland

In the far East the Autumn’s fires are burning,
The forests burst into a crimson glow,
The air is full of whispers of the snow,
The winds awake, the river’s tides are turning
To meet the frosts that will enchain them soon
And weld their icy feathers till the noon
Of the glad springtime. But here the summer’s breath
Still lingers, the many blossoms wake,
And color, sweetness from the sunshine take.
They show no signs of fading or of death,
The summer trails her lovely garments still
And smiles at us from ev’ry vale and hill.
The leaves are green, the waters ripple by,
And bird song floats upon the sunny air.
The butterflies are flying everywhere
On their wings, like blossoms in the sky.
November comes with heart of sunny June,
With Summer’s loveliness ’tis all atune.

SFV NEARBY RACEWAY
the Encino VELODROME

While I was trying to be a CARBON NEUTRAL
as all those "all knowers" by driving around for
absolutely no reason at all I followed the signs
saying Encino Velodrome. I knew there was
one that was built for the 1984 Olympics, and
that is in Domingez Hills yet did not know our
Valley had one. Even though it was locked up
this late afternoon, I took some shots as I could.

We are near the truition of this project.

The Hughes Family,
yes those markets a while back,

NOHO COMMONS project.

Seen here the new bank with a

Mayor Sam says the "MONOLITH" as I call it will
probably announce the NOHO COMMONS.
By the By...
How's Market has WINE TASTINGS which had a little
political stifling that local resident Mike Higby
helped provide positive actions that allow
the events now to occur.

• ST PRO GOLF in Tujunga Cyn
Angeles National Golf Club
on Foothill in Sunland is shining
with players, sun & fun.
But this was not always the case.
Local environmentalists complained,
as with the 210 Fwy, that construction
would hurt the natural surroundings,
the fwy it was little fishies in a pond
off Foothill, and small
indigenous plants where the golf course
would be, plus thought of disasters after
any mass rain storm. I think the fishies,
plants and golf course are doing well
now together with the freeway, and tons
of avid golfers. ∆clic4vid∆

• NoHo 2 Vegas 1962

1962 Pontiac Station Wagon, sort of an SUV.
We finally had A/C in the sixties when we ALWAYS
drove from Noho to Vegas. Previous years we died
as we cried the scorching way to and fro on our
3-5 day vacation to the gambling wonderland. We
didn't have air conditioning at home in the SFV and
you know the summers are 100 and smoggy. I
suppose that was the reason we went 600 miles
across 120 degree desert to a town in that desert,
to enjoy air conditioned comfort. We always stayed
at the Stardust, but we were too young to go to the
girley show, but did see extravaganzas like Flower
Drum Song, with Prime Rib, of course. Swimming
pools, sunburns and piling your buffet plate skyhigh
and maybe a trip to Hoover Dam, then back home.

THANK YOU MAYOR SAM for your inspiration...
• CONVOY ...
I mean ROAD -TRAIN

Imagine driving to Vegas passing car after car
in your new hydrogen-powered Corvette,

coming up to a trailer truck , so you put your l
eft signal on and look back in your side

mirror and start your pass, then finding out there
are 5 trailers and the truck cab you

must pass safely.

That's the Outback of Australia where long desert
roads across desolate countryside are the rule.

It is common to have 3 plus trailers zooming down a highway.
There are no freeways just single

lane roads crisscrossing the Continent.
Of course safety is upmost to the drivers,

being the RAIL-TRAIN itself or those coming up
to one of these convoys.

Kingsley Foreman (outbacktowing.tripod.com)
says the truck drivers must control these

beasts and others have to realize this.
They are from 150 feet long with 3 trailers

and 250 feet long with 5 trailers. He says, about
confronting one of these ' trains ',

" If you are at all nervous about the situation, pull over,

make a cup of tea and proceed when the road is clear."

and lastly proclaiming ...

" Keep an eye open for the super Road-Train it has 7 trailers ."

That's 350 feet long, WOW I can hardly wait for that
Rush Hour drive on the 101.

• 66% L.A. TRANSIT
compared to the rest of the world

L.A. METRO, well no, this is old
P.E. California Car in the 1920's L.A.

We do have new buses and rails but
look at CHINA & BRAZIL...

OUR METRO ORANGELINE
is 66% of China or Brazil,
we
have 2 part articulated
and
they have 3 part bi-articulated buses...

BRAZIL has had their buses holding 250 since 1999.

CHINA
says their 3 part articulated buses are
the largest holding up to 300 passengers

CHINA NEWS SAYS-
Determined to have the "world's largest"
everything by 2010, China recently unveiled
the "world's largest" bus, the Youth Daily
reported earlier this week. The Chinese
manufacturer, named Zhejiang
Young Man Vehicle Group, introduced
the 25-meter-long "Superliner"
at Shanghai's Busworld Asia 2007 convention .
The bus has five doors, 40 seats,
carries up to 300 passengers

Well, it seems we are off a third when it comes
to transit buses. Yes. we have the new Metro buses
that are modern and articulated, but CHINA says they
have the largest bi-articulated buses holding 300.
Brazil says they have had bi-articulated buses since
1999 that hold 250 passengers. Who's modern?
