Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

NoHo's new East Valley High School just blocks
east of the Metro Station. This fanatastic school
plant will include an Olympic size swimming pool.
February opened the school to the community.
The team name is the Falcons.

I went to North Hollywood High that was built
in the 1930's. The Huskies H-U-S-K-I-E-S yeah.
Many famous students were from my ol' school
such as Bert Convy, Terri Garr, Adam Carola
and John Ritter.

I'm sure East Valley will continue in this Valley's
claim to fame, and that's FAME.

by Gordon Jenkins
Oh! I'm packing my grip
And I'm leav-in' to-day,
'Cause I'm takin' a trip
Cal-i-for-nia way

I'm gon-na set-tle down and nev-er more roam
And make the SAN FER-NAN-DO VAL0LEY my home.

I'll for-get my sins,
I'll be mak-in' new friends,
Where the West be-gins
And the sun-set ends,
'Cause I've de-cid-ed where "yours tru-ly" should be
And it's the SAN FER-NAN-DO VAL-LEY for me

I think that I'm safe in stat-in'
{She - He} will be wait-in'
When my lone-ly jour-ney is done-
And kind-ly old Rev-'rend Thomas
Made us a pro-mise
He will make the two of us one.

So, I'm hit-tin' the trail
To the cow coun-try.
You can for-ward my mail
Care of R.F.D.
I'm gon-na set-tle down and nev-er more roam
And make the SAN FER-NAN-DO VAL-LEY my home

TRAINS 40's & NOW • Van De Camps Bakery • Hollywood Explodes 2006 • NoHo ART GALLERY Opening • NoHo Oxnard & Lankershim History

• Down the Track...

• TRAINS 40's & NOW

Lockheed Airport in the 1940's Rail Line with the
now Bob Hope Airport in the background. The train
route parallels Vanowen St. here in Burbank just east
of NoHo. A great steam train goes west and below we
see the same right of way with a MetroLink Train 2007.

• Van De Camps Bakery

This is a Southern
California favorite
that blanketed the
area in markets, as
here in a Von's, and
they had their own
restaurants "under
the windmill". The
company still sells
in stores.

• Hollywood Blowout 2006

IT WAS
the JACKASS premier
at the Chinese on Hollywood Blvd, I was
there with Candy who came down from Northern
California and WE WERE SIGHTSEEING
not going to that opening yet we did go to
film the Smutpeddlers at the Jackass
party at Safari Sam's. AnyWho, after people
had gone into the movie all of a sudden there
was an EXPLOSION in the street west up a half a
block, smoke rose up in the air, authorities seemed
puzzled and limos parked beside the action were
full of dust. It turned out it was an underground
electrical power malfuction, putting power out
on various places on Hollywood, like Virgin,
which was blacked out, yet I noticed that the
Chinese Theater with Jackass WAS OKAY!

There is new High School
in NoHo and it is directly
behind the Metro station
See some pics below...

NoHo Oxnard & Lankershim NEW

SEE STORY BELOW...
Today Hody's is long gone
with the clown mask kids menu,
funny that the first time I
remember being on that
property of Oxnard & Lankershim
was when I was a little boy going to see wonderful
the Clyde Beatty Circus, with a sideshow and the
bigtop, and smell of the elephants. Thriftimart became
Von's and now Super Warehouse or something like that,

∆clic enlarge∆

they built a Safeway inbetween that became a Liquor Barn
and now Drug Emporium where Malcolm was filmed.
AND now on the corner where the Hody's was and then
a gas station WE HAVE NEW BUILDING. As of today
I have not been by there so if the structure I saw being
made is finished and open to something I don't know.

Remember the EDSEL,
there was a car dealer built
kitty corner from the area
mentioned above that
opened up to showcase the newest Ford creation named
after one of the founder's gransons. It was odd, I suppose
non-manly style that the public was not impressed with.
You can see the location in the Polaroid below, it is to the
right of Hody's.

• NOHO then, now...

Hodys Hollywood & Vine restaurant of the past
with NoHo location. The 'clown face' was the kids
menu, you could wear it.

Oxnard & Lankershim in North Hollywood
during the late 50's. A major L.A. restaurant
chain called Hody's. There was one at Hollywood
& Vine, and two at La Brea & Rodeo. They had a
clown mask menu for kids. There was a coffee
shop and dining room including a bakery.
There was a major fire and it was never rebuilt.
By the way Rodeo is pronounced like the horse way,
only does it change to the posh way in 90210 down
the way a bit. PHOTO by Richard Sapiro.

Above Thriftmart, " Open 24 Hours"
across from Bekin's Moving and Storage
which now is a Leed's Mattress store
and in the same shopping center as a
Baskin Robbins Ice Cream store, one of the
first stores for that then Glendale company.
I went to NHHS with
Steve Baskin who's
family were part owners
of this unique
SoCal ice cream store.

A long gone supermarket chain of the 1950's
to 60's absorbed by Smart & Final.
There was one near Oxnard on
Lankershim
in North Hollywood
with it's tall " T " icon.

There was another in the Valley Plaza
just north of the north of the new LAUSD
middle school, where the Smart & Final is,
and that was a small shopping center with small shops
on one side of the market and also a shoe repair
and Chef's chicken bbq.

The school model is for

the new L.A.U.S.D. High School in NoHo just east
of the Metro complex. There is a swimming pool,
no 'scrub's joke'. Their stories are following...

@ NEW NOHO HIGH

...guess, wait, where are we, okay, do you know
it is not Chandler off North Hollywood High,
anyway it was built in the 1930's. so, where is it
Vineland off of Burbank where the new High
School has opened just east of the NoHo Metro

A clip of the new NoHo High under contruction
in the summer of 2005. this has been on youtube
since July 2006 with 750 at random hits.
