HISTORICAL 76 BALL
NEAR LAKE BALBOA

-LAKE BALBOA HAS real BIRDS
(see filming story below)

Here are the REAL fowl @ Lake Balboa in the
middle of the San Fernando Valley. Check out
the filming @ Lake Balboa (below), they used
trained ducks and pigeons for their commercial
filmed HERE to look like the East Coast...Clic.

-HOLLYWOOD FILMS
"NEW YORK CITY"
@ LAKE BALBOA

WE SEE BELOW THE BUSWAY FROM NOHO
to WARNER CENTER which goes by Lake Balboa
in the middle of San Fernando Valley California.

When I was there this Friday a Hollywood Crew was
filming a commercial for CABLEVISION which is in
NEW YAWK CITY. The scene I filmed here SEEMS
to be a man sitting by a lake (PROBABLY TO LOOK LIKE
CENTRAL PARK IN N.Y.) with trained birds walking in front.
After WE, THE PUBLIC were told the park was closing,
the next scene was with 'FOOTBALL PLAYERS' on the
grassy area where I took a look at before they filmed
of some 'balloon or something'
So, check out these scenes.

-CRUZIN' ON THE ORANGE BUS
NOHO to
LAKE BALBOA

HERE ARE THE ARTICULATED BUSES
OF THE METRO ORANGE LINE
The buses run to and fro NORTH HOLLYWOOD
to WARNER CENTER in Woodland Hills.
The path is the rail line that the RED CARS ran
from L.A. thru Noho to Canoga Park basically
down the Chandler Blvd former railway with
a dedicated busway monitored by the L.A. Sheriff.
The busway continues west along the north side of
Balboa Lake to the Warner Business Center.

History CHANGED in Noho this weekend with
the EMERGENCE of a new commercial entity
from, NEW YAWK CITY, MACY'S arrived on
the WEST COAST and bye bye the BIG M,
May Company once owned by MR. MAY
.
I hope we at least get to see some MACY'S
BALLOONS in celebration going around this
1955 edifice.
Happy Thankgiving

-RAILWAYS OF LOS ANGELES

Forget the Aqua, Blue, Orange, Green ETCETERA
rail lines we now have in L.A. In the old days we
had the RED CARS and the STREETCARS.
The Trollys ran the City streets from Downtown
to Hollywood and East L.A. Streetcars were the
earliest public transport starting just after electricity
came to the area about the 1880's. Anywhere
someone was funding a track of land, the rails
would follow. Temple St. and the Temple Rail Line
ran from Downtown north to the area Mr. Temple
had to sell lots for homes. As things progressed
by the early 1900's the increasing population
needs made for places like Long Beach with its
port to grow and a new greater rail train affair
came about the Pacific Electric Red Cars
running from L.A. to the new Long Beach. Alike,
the San Fernando Valley grew and the Red Car
came through the Cahuenga Pass to North Hollywood,
where now the Orange Line starts, and continued
out to Canoga Park. Yes, folks the future already
happened and ended in the 1950's,
you know that story BEEP BEEP.

-ANTARCTICA WEATHER
IN NOHO
57 (fifty-seven) YEARS AGO !

North Hollywood and all of L.A. fell under
a freak Winter storm in February of 1949.

COMPARE PICS 1949 versus 2006 in Noho.
My Dad once gave Dr. Fishbeck of Ch 7 news
weather copies of pics which were aired,
I think it was the 1970's. (Henry Elovitz)

1949 ...................................2006

First the front of the House
then the back and that is the same FENCE.

It WAS FEBRUARY 1949, just wanted
you all to coooool off a little.

VIC TANNY PICS
A CAT OF 2 CITIES

Vic Tanny was born in Sunland Tujunga and lived
6 years there. He has lived with his sister Sweety Pie
and they both moved with me to North hollywood
2 years ago. These pics are in Noho. Enjoy a product,
as myself, of both Valleys and Citys.

-SUNLAND TUJUNGA EATS

Being hungry is one thing we like to take care of.
That early evening 'I do not want to cook' syndrom
takes hold, get the keys, let's go to JIMMY DEANS

Right at the same corner the 'little old lady' got the fine
for moving too slowly at Foothill & Woodward
on the
northwest corner seen here on this video pan first showing
the old kmart, where the drive-in was, then shows the
crosswalk the lady got fined and then JIMMY DEANS.
You can eat inside or outside or use the drive-thru.
Hamburgers, hot dogs (ask them to grill 'em)
malts, shakes, fries, onion rings...
our hometown hangout.

SUNLAND TUJUNGA
meet at AL READ'S
MYdaughter Jessica
worked here when she

was sixteen..............JESSICA JUST GOT MARRIED read on>
at Foothill Summitrose and Mt. Gleason.
The two shots show the corner where it sits
I have included a menu that might be out of date
but shows their delicious dinner items. I always
try to the PRIME RIB salad baked potato and
of course their special toasted garlic bread.
They have Specials daily that include seafood.

The Bar is one of Sunland Tujunga's favorite
wateringholes. Sports TV and lively chat fill the air.
...and don't forget the cheese toast.

-VALLEY PLAZA MEMORIES

Here is a remainder of Valley Plaza.
Radio Shack and Smart & Final occupy a building the I
say was an original inside mall. The Radio Shack area
where shops which you would enter right inside the
Thriftimart Market. As you walked in to the right was
a kiosk like shoe repair. There was also a Chef's
Chicken BBQ. Further north the other buildings
included DRUCKERS Kosher Deli, a Jewish Bakery
and the Thrifty Drug with a fountain at the back.
The market at Archwood was originally called
Mac Donald's Market with a Scotsman logo.

(enlarge:click) THERE WAS AN 'AIRPORT' TOO!.

Sunland Tujunga & North Hollywood
are the City of Los Angeles,
California in the U.S.A.

We also live in the County of Los Angeles
this is the evil maybe x-logo that has that
G-d reference, and other stuff of the devils.
The County has used for it decades, WHO KNEW?

We can always make fun of ourselves
as with the fake-logo for Kalifoana.
With this neighborhood blog about
these cities with unique
historys and lifestyles,
we will shed some humor
and truths concerning our
