Hot Summer Nites Crosswalks

SUN VALLEY
CALIFORNIA
July 2009

L.A. Dept of Public Works make street art
on a very hot summer nite in Sun Valley,
which is in between NoHo and Sunland Tujunga.

• Sunland Tujunga @ The Canyon

Our newest addition to our driving pleasure
is this wider bridge across Tujunga Canyon
at our northern entrance to ST
, JUNE 2009.

Esquestrian Activities
Not Just in the Foothills

HERE I WAS driving home from
my tutoring job for the LAUSD...

...and I come upon an interesting site.
I grew up in NoHo and live in

Sunland Tujunga.
When I was young my Mom went to
a butcher at
the end of Tujunga Ave
just north of Vanowen St, where
there were RR tracks and landing
zone
for 'Lockheed' Airport
with some vacant fields
with old Circus Wagons
and horses,
the old days.
Now, while living up here in ST
there are always plenty of horses...

BUT DOWNTOWN L.A. ?
This rider was clip-clopping
up Sunset
Blvd near Beaudry St,

you can HEAR and see them riding
with skyscrapers in view.

L.A. 's THE PLACE

SONS of ANARCHY
ST filming June 2009

As I was driving back up to Sunland
I spotted a 'policeman' and realized
"FILMING in the FOOTHILLS" was
happening with the Fx Network series
that has been filming their biker drama
SONS OF ANARCHY
Sunland Tujunga in June 2009
on Wentworth by Shadow Hills.

Our FREEDOM PARK
downtown los angeles

O
ne time there was only one place in L.A.
where one could 'speak his mind'.
Nowadays anyone and everyone of all creeds
can be anyway they care to be.
Back then one would get downtown some way
by trolly, bus, car or walking to get to their place of
freedom, and this was not so long ago.
It was not so automatic to address one's ideas, as now.

Remnants from ww1 and ww2 when security was at it's upmost,
people had few areas to express themselves,
something we now expect any day and everywhere.

During World War I, the Square was often the scene for militia
receptions and provided a forum for public speakers.

In November 1918, a week after
Armistice Day ended World War I,
the park was renamed Pershing Square,
in honor of
Gen. John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing

The park is exactly one square block in size, bounded by 5th Street
to the north, 6th Street to the south, Hill Street to the east,
and Olive Street to the west.
a square be it... Pershing Square
During these decades up through the sixty's the park was
lined with palm trees and walkways around the perimeter.

A Speakers' Corner is an area
where public speaking is allowed.

The original and most noted is in
the north-east corner of Hyde Park
in London, England.

I
n the photo at the top you see the palm tree lined
walkways with nearby office buildings in the background,
people enjoying a sunny California day.

In the photo below we see those cement walkways filled
with people on either sides all engaged in many,
yet similar activities, at their 'speakers corners',
freely expressing any views they want.

Here is OUR L.A. HISTORY, that in our modern times,
has always included a place for anyone to 'get up on their soapbox'
and express any views and debate with anyone on any subject.

Obviously NOT IN OUR MODERN TIMES...

PERSHING SQUARE L.A.
"speaker's corner, your soapbox"
...where did this freedom go ?
(you know you can't smell the roses or the cigarettes on the internet)

∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆

Sunland Tujunga & North Hollywood
are the City of Los Angeles,
California in the U.S.A.

We also live in the County of Los Angeles
this is the evil maybe x-logo that has that
G-d reference, and other stuff of the devils.
The County has used for it decades, WHO KNEW?

We can always make fun of ourselves
as with the fake-logo for Kalifoana.
With this neighborhood blog about
these cities with unique
historys and lifestyles,
we will shed some humor
and truths concerning our
Los Angeles
