WELCOME TO
St. Noho
a native's eye on
Sunland Tujunga and North Hollywood

-My Introduction
first-timers
Please read
what this is
is all about.

Los Angeles, Ca.

-MONUMENTAL NOHO ART

At Burbank and Lankershim and Tujunga,
which are all streets in North Hollywood,
there is the Noho Welcome monument,
and there it is, say no more...

At the corner of North Hollywood Park by
the L.A. Library Branch where Tujunga
and Magnolia meet, there is a statue of
North Hollywood's famous native, the
flyer of fate, Amelia Earhart the pilot
doomed to history. Go to the library
or search engine to find out her story.

up up and away...

I PERSONALLY KNOW
OF ONE AIRPORT IN
NORTH HOLLYWOOD,
and I grew up hearing
of another, both near
each other,
at different times.

When I grew up an older friend
David Kennedy, said his Dad had
flown his airplanes landing in the
WASH that is now the 170 where
his house was approximately in
the area of Laurel Cyn and Burbank NE near the WASH.

Movie Theater former
Alexander's Market

My Mom would always take us to shop. One area was
VALLEY PLAZA, or as she would jokingly call it,
"Valley Pleasure" the part SW of Sears by the Theater
which was an ALEXANDER'S MARKET.
Oh, the COKE MACHINE in this market on those hot
Valley days would dispense a bottle of COKE, 8oz,
that was so cold the first drinks were COKE SLUSH.

VIctory Van Owen park
In Valley Plaza

The large parking lot is the same today leading to that
part of Victory Van Owen Park which WAS/IS on both
sides of the WASH/170FWY. The WASH was great
all that sand, and on the other side there was a slanting
concrete wall that we would get a piece of corrugated box
throw some sand and sliiiide!

Basically Victory Blvd
and Laurel Cyn

In 1957 (I looked it up on the web) L.A. Airways
paved
a landing circle and road from Victory Blvd
to have a helicopter mail stop, which a man in a
station
wagon would come and pick up US Mail.

My best friend Richard and I once took a passenger
trip on the noisy Korean Era helicopter leaving
VALLEY PLAZA going to Van Nuys, LAX,
Down Town L.A. and Burbank Airport
(BOB HOPE AIRPORT
originally LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT)
a very noisy but exciting flight.

SO, there you are
2 (TWO) airports in NOHO,
TOLD YA!.

-OPOSSUM STORIES
IN NOHO

this my new family pal,
I thought, turns out I think
there one or more...

One day in the Winter I heard
noises coming from the side
window of the living room,
this is in Noho, I looked out
at the bush that I put solar
powered nite ambient lites pointing up into the leaves.
At first I thought it was a mouse, I then noticed it was a
baby opossum getting warm on the led light fixture.
This happened again when I saw VIC ( see kitty story below)
looking out the window and looking at the baby opossum.
We didn't see it anymore till last month again when I was
chaparroning VIC ( he's an indoor cat) and I noticed him
stand up and pick up his tail like a hunting dog, and there
was are now teenage pal face to face with VIC. Well, I yelled
at him so there would be no accidental fighting. A few days
later I was outside in my tent watching TV, VIC was in the
house, and I saw my buddy, it was so matter of the moment
that I did not get any pics. Another nite I got this pic, above,
of our new occupant.
Yes, as of a few days with this heat I give water and catfood.
I heard rustling yestarday, had a flashlite, agin cam not there,
there were TWO OPOSSUMS.
-the tails continue...

-ANTARCTICA WEATHER
IN NOHO
57 (fifty-seven) YEARS AGO !

North Hollywood and all of L.A. fell under
a freak Winter storm in February of 1949.

COMPARE PICS 1949 versus 2006 in Noho.
My Dad once gave Dr. Fishbeck of Ch 7 news
weather copies of pics which were aired,
I think it was the 1970's. (Henry Elovitz)

1949 ...................................2006

First the front of the House
then the back and that is the same FENCE.

It WAS FEBRUARY 1949, just wanted
you all to coooool off a little.

VIC TANNY PICS
A CAT OF 2 CITIES

Vic Tanny was born in Sunland Tujunga and lived
6 years there. He has lived with his sister Sweety Pie
and they both moved with me to North hollywood
2 years ago. These pics are in Noho. Enjoy a product,
as myself, of both Valleys and Citys.

-PUT THE POLITICIAN
ON THE CORNER AND HE
MAKES A MOVIE BY HIMSELF
wb pic click on pic to see trailer more ST shots

Would you believe the corner shown in the pics below
recently had our GOVERNATOR, prior to him being
elected, making a major motion picture right at this
same corner of Foothill and Mt. Gleason?

IT IS TRUE...T 3 Terminator 3 was filmed extensively
in Sunland Tujunga and right at this corner where there
is now this new mini mall. We saw something being
built back then and said 'oh no another car repair shop?'
Then the rumors, and as you see it is, as in my pics,
the pre production of the movie from sets to before shooting shots.
YOU MUST come back and CLICK on each LINKs listed below *

THERE IS THE SAME
FIRE HYDRANT
AS SEEN IN THE MOVIE.

-GOVERNATOR PRODUCES

-SUNLAND TUJUNGA EATS

Being hungry is one thing we like to take care of.
That early evening 'I do not want to cook' syndrom
takes hold, get the keys, let's go to JIMMY DEANS

Right at the same corner the 'little old lady' got the fine
for moving too slowly at Foothill & Woodward
on the
northwest corner seen here on this video pan first showing
the old kmart, where the drive-in was, then shows the
crosswalk the lady got fined and then JIMMY DEANS.
You can eat inside or outside or use the drive-thru.
Hamburgers, hot dogs (ask them to grill 'em)
malts, shakes, fries, onion rings...
our hometown hangout.

SUNLAND TUJUNGA

MYdaughter Jessica
worked here when she

was sixteen..............JESSICA JUST GOT MARRIED read on>
at Foothill Summitrose and Mt. Gleason.
The two shots show the corner where it sits
I have included a menu that might be out of date
but shows their delicious dinner items. I always
try to the PRIME RIB salad baked potato and
of course their special toasted garlic bread.
They have Specials daily that include seafood.

The Bar is one of Sunland Tujunga's favorite
wateringholes. Sports TV and lively chat fill the air.
...and don't forget the cheese toast.

-VALLEY PLAZA MEMORIES

Here is a remainder of Valley Plaza.
Radio Shack and Smart & Final occupy a building the I
say was an original inside mall. The Radio Shack area
where shops which you would enter right inside the
Thriftimart Market. As you walked in to the right was
a kiosk like shoe repair. There was also a Chef's
Chicken BBQ. Further north the other buildings
included DRUCKERS Kosher Deli, a Jewish Bakery
and the Thrifty Drug with a fountain at the back.
The market at Archwood was originally called
Mac Donald's Market with a Scotsman logo.

(enlarge:click) THERE WAS AN 'AIRPORT' TOO!.

Sunland Tujunga & North Hollywood
are the City of Los Angeles,
California in the U.S.A.

We also live in the County of Los Angeles
this is the evil maybe x-logo that has that
G-d reference, and other stuff of the devils.
The County has used for it decades, WHO KNEW?

We can always make fun of ourselves
as with the fake-logo for Kalifoana.
With this neighborhood blog about
these cities with unique
historys and lifestyles,
we will shed some humor
and truths concerning our
Los Angeles Megalopolis.
